Traditionally, upon completion of Masonic labors, a repast was attended and enjoyed by all the Members, as the Lodge was said to be at refreshment. In the early nineteenth century, a much more formal approach to refreshment was adopted by French Freemasons. It was termed a Loge de Table, or Table Lodge. The Table Lodge was opened in the Entered Apprentice degree for the purpose of allowing Brothers who had received the first degree to be present for the occasion.
A similar practice was adopted 22 years ago by Hillsborough Lodge No. 25 in Tampa, Florida. Since then, this tradition has continued and the Annual Hillsborough No. 25 Table Lodge has become an event that Brothers from around the State look forward to each year.
Last night I had the privilege of attending their 22nd Annual Table Lodge. Having attended this event for several years in Tampa, I always look forward to this great tradition. W.:M.: Ritch Carroll did a fantastic job with the event, and he and the Brethren of Hillsborough Lodge No. 25 should be commended for a great job. I did not catch the final count, but it was well over 130 Masons in attendance.
Traditions in our beloved fraternity are some of the most important aspects of building Brotherhood and celebrating the individuality of each and every Lodge. This tradition is one that continues to grow and flourish in Tampa, and we appreciate the efforts of so many to make it happen.
What traditions does your Lodge have and how does it foster your Lodge’s individual identity?
Keep up the tradition! – It’s a great day to be a Mason!
