“What I have found inside the box does not look all that much like the picture on the outside of the box…“
This is very powerful and sadly resonates with so many Masons. The root cause for this sentiment lies in each one of us in some way. Do we follow our obligations and follow through with what we committed to do? Do we help support our Brothers in their individual endeavors when it doesn’t directly benefit ourselves? Do we actively work to improve your Lodges and their standing in our communities? Are we satisfied with doing the bare minimum to just make it another year?
Our Lodges will continue to decline as long as we don’t live up to the promise we made when we took our obligation. The constant focus on making everything easier and quicker has turned our fraternity into an empty shell of what it once was.
The only way to turn the tide is to put in the work! Nothing worth while comes easy, nor should it. If you’re not willing to put in the work, then perhaps the box is the best it will ever be; and it’s time to pack it up and put it away.
I do not believe that in my heart; and I hope more of you feel that way and will commit to be the spark in your Lodge to inspire change and progress toward a brighter future!
It’s a great day to be a Mason! (that’s in my heart!)
